'The further out it gets, the more difficult it gets' Sinead O'Brien on coping with grief

Sinead O'Brien has opened up about coping with grief and how it gets harder the more time passes.
The mum-of-one lost her brother-in-law, Ireland rugby star Tom Tierney, out of the blue in 2023, then just nine days later her beloved dad, Dobs, who regularly featured in her videos, also passed away.
One gut-wrenching moment that still haunts her from that time is singing at Tom's funeral and pulling the same and still wet dress off the radiator to go to her dad's funeral days later.
Chatting to The Sunday World, she said: 'I find the further out it gets, the more difficult it gets because you just realise they're not coming back.
'The first year, you're almost running on adrenaline. Then the other days, you just learn to manage.'
One day when she really struggled to cope was at her wedding in Portugal in 2024. What should have been the happiest time for her was tinged with sadness over her dad's absence.
While she missed him walking her down the aisle, what really tore her heart to shreds was him not being there to give a speech about her.
Instead, she wrote 'a letter from heaven' where she asked her guests to close their eyes and pretend it was Dobs speaking.
Sinead also cherishes the many videos of her day she has and looks back at them regularly and she is especially glad to have them for her son Jacob.
'I was the first one to have a boy in the family. My dad is surrounded by women all his life, so Jacob got to meet him, which was very important to me,' she said.
