Trump’s Doctor Says He’s in ‘Excellent’ Health, Cites ‘Frequent Victories in Golf’

In a health summary worthy of North Korean propaganda, Donald Trump‘s doctor cited his “frequent victories in golf” when discussing the president’s “well-being.” It has been widely reported that Trump is notorious for cheating at golf and claiming victory in tournaments he never won or that he never even played in. The president, the oldest ever to take the oath of office, underwent an annual physical last week, leading Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, the White House physician, to declare him “fully fit” to serve as commander-in-chief. In a summary of the president’s health, Barbabella discussed Trump’s “active lifestyle,” which he said “continues to contribute significantly to his well-being.” Barbabella said Trump participates in “multiple meetings, public appearances, press availability, and frequent victories in golf events.” One such alleged golf victory took place on April 6 when Trump claimed he won the Senior Club Championship at his Trump Jupiter Golf Club. Trump told the media that he felt “very good, because I won.” He added, “It’s good to win. You heard I won, right?” The president also claimed he won another tournament this year, again at one of his own properties. Trump said he won the Senior Club Championship at Trump International West Palm Beach in January, but the Palm Beach Post reported that “nobody saw him play,” and he was “not being known to have played in the tournament until his name was spotted atop of the leaderboard.” There are plenty of reasons to doubt Trump’s boasts about his golf game, including his outlandish claim that he beat pro Phil Mickelson’s score at Trump Bedminster. Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly wrote an entire book on how Trump cheats at golf titled Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump. Included in the book is a story about how Trump stole a kid’s ball to win his own club’s tournament. Reilly audited Trump’s first 18 championship claims, finding that 16 of them were fraudulent. “Some he said he won and he wasn’t even at the course,” Reilly told Rolling Stone. Trump has denied cheating on the links, tweeting, “I don’t cheat at golf,” in 2016. When he claimed to have bested Mikelson’s score in 2023, he posted on Truth Social: “Now, some people will think that sounds low, but there is no hanky/lanky. Many people watch, plus I am surrounded by Secret Service Agents. Not much you can do even if you wanted to, and I don’t. For some reason, I am just a good golfer/athlete.” As part of the physical, Trump’s doctors assessed his cognitive abilities by administering the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and said he scored a “30 out of 30.” “I don’t know what to tell you other than I got every answer right,” Trump bragged to reporters about his MoCA score on Saturday aboard Air Force One, adding, “I think it’s a pretty well-known test. Whatever it is, I got every one — I got it all right.” Trump said his physicians administered “every test you can imagine.” They did not, however, administer a colonoscopy. Trump had one in 2024, and his physicians recommend he have another in 2027 when he will be nearly 81 years old. Trump’s doctor noted that the president is on medication to control high cholesterol, Aspirin for “cardiac prevention” and Mometasone cream for a skin condition. He also has a history of “seasonal allergies, a history of COVID-19 infection, well-managed rosacea, actinic keratosis, benign nevi, diverticulosis, and a benign colon polyp.” The president has also had cataract surgery on both eyes, a common procedure for aging patients that replaces a cloudy ocular lens with an artificial one to improve vision. Trump apparently lost 20 pounds since his last White House physical according to the report. In 2020, he weighed 244 pounds, but according to this year’s report he weighs 224 pounds. His blood labs appear to all be in the normal range. “Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul — a very good soul,” Trump said. The White House physician did not comment on Trump’s soul in his report. Notably, former President Joe Biden’s final annual physical report as president in 2024 went into significantly more detail, with six pages of information compared to Trump’s three pages.
