Two men charged after police swoop on 'disturbance' on busy Edinburgh street

Two men have been arrested and charged following a late-night disturbance in Edinburgh on Thursday. Officers swarmed Portobello High Street at around 9.15pm on Thursday June 26, with several police vehicles seen in the area. Two men, aged 22 and 24, were arrested in connection with the incident, and are expected to appear in court on a future date, reports Edinburgh Live. Images from the scene show five police cars blocking a junction on the busy main road . Three officers can be seen in discussion next to a police van. The nature of the incident has not been confirmed at this time. A concerned local said: "Big police presence on Portobello High Street. Police were questioning some men apparently. "By the looks of the photo, it's literally 30 yards along from the police station on Portobello Road." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.15pm on Thursday, 26 June, 2025, officers were called to a report of a disturbance on Portobello High Street, Edinburgh . “Two men, aged 22 and 24, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident and are due to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.” In an unrelated incident in the capital, a police investigation remains ongoing after the body of a man was discovered on Princes Street early on Wednesday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6am on June 25 following reports of an unresponsive man in the street. Ambulance crews attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic tent was erected as cops probed the area. Police are treating the death as unexplained .
