Yuzvendra Chahal left behind a poor start to the season and bowled one of the greatest spells in Indian Premier League (IPL) history on Tuesday (April 15) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) as Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 16 runs. After Shreays Iyer's decision to bat first backfired as the hosts were bowled out for 111, PBKS looked destined for a defeat despite Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock departing for single-digit scores in the first two overs of the innings. When Chahal was given the ball in the eight over, KKR were cruising towards the target as Ajinkya Rahane and Angrish Raghuvanshi built a solid partnership. However, the 34-year-old turned the game around by dismissing Rahane for a run-a-ball 17. The star Indian spinner dismissed Raghuvanshi (37 of 28) on the first ball of the 9th over before dismissing Rinku Singh (2 of 9) and Ramandeep Singh (0 of 1) on back-to-back deliveries in the 12th over of the match. Chahal ended up with figures of 4-28 in four overs and was awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) award as KKR were bowled out for 95. Yuzvendra Chahal Equals Sunil Narine's Twin Feat This was the 8th instance of Chahal taking four or more wickets in an innings, which has seen him equal KKR star Sunil Narine's all-time record. Both Narine and Chahal have seven four-wicket hauls in their career, alongside one five-wicket haul. Among Indian players, Amit Mishra (5) is second on the elite list. Kuldeep Yadav and Chris Morris are the only other players to achieve multiple four-wicket hauls against KKR in IPL history. He achieved the feat twice for the Rajasthan Royals, including a five-wicket haul in 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium, before taking four wickets in a match at Kolkata's Eden Gardens in 2023. Narine is the only other player to have three four-wicket hauls against the same team. The KKR legend has spun a web around Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and taken a quartet of wickets against the Virat Kohli-starrer side thrice in his career. Talking about Chahal, he became the IPL's costliest spinner after being purchased by PBKS for a whopping Rs. 18 crore in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction in Jeddah last year. Before tonight's match, Chahal had only two wickets in five matches for the franchise. Chahal is the league's highest wicket-taker with 211 wickets and the only player with more than 200 scalps. He is the highest wicket-taker for both RCB and RR and is the only player to hold the massive feat for two teams in the IPL.
