[May 20, 2025] — USA Rugby has officially announced that Simon Amor will step down from his role as Head Coach of the USA Men’s Sevens team. In his place, Zack Test has been appointed as the new Head Coach, effective immediately.
A former USA Eagle and seasoned coach, Test brings a wealth of experience in high-performance rugby and player development. Since 2021, he has served as Assistant Coach for the USA Women’s Sevens, playing a vital role in their recent success, including a historic Olympic medal win at Paris 2024. His deep understanding of American rugby—both at the elite and grassroots levels—makes him a strong fit to guide the Men’s Sevens program as it builds toward the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
Test’s appointment signals USA Rugby’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its domestic rugby foundation, fostering local coaching talent, and developing a sustainable athlete pipeline. His leadership is expected to play a critical role in realizing these long-term goals.
Zack Test shared his thoughts on the new role:
“It is an honor and privilege to represent the USA Men’s Sevens team as Head Coach. Coaching this team has been a dream of mine for over a decade. To me, this is more than just a team—it’s a family, a group of dedicated individuals with the power to shape the legacy of USA Rugby through their values and actions.
“My mission is to help this program reach its highest potential—on and off the field. We have the chance to build an authentic American style of Sevens, inspire our growing rugby community, and ultimately compete for Olympic success. My focus will be on maximizing our current talent, developing consistency under pressure, and refining the physical, technical, and tactical elements needed to perform at the world’s highest level.
“I’m excited to lead this team in a way that reflects our core American rugby values and inspires the next generation heading into LA 2028 and beyond.”
USA Rugby CEO, Bill Goren, praised Test’s appointment:
“Zack was a standout candidate during our previous coaching search, showing impressive initiative, intelligence, and passion. Over the past year, he’s continued to evolve, demonstrating the leadership growth we were looking for. We are confident in Zack’s vision and his ability to guide the Men’s Sevens to new heights.
“We also want to thank Simon Amor for his contributions during a pivotal year for the program and wish him the very best in his next chapter.”
Before finalizing the appointment, USA Rugby considered several high-level international candidates. In the end, Test’s familiarity with the USA Sevens ecosystem and his proven coaching track record made him the ideal choice.
USA Rugby will also launch a global search for a new Assistant Coach for the Women’s Sevens, with the goal of onboarding before the 2025–26 SVNS Series kicks off.
