During a special gathering at Clarence House in London, Rajeev Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), gifted a copy of his book 'Scars of 1947: Real Partition Stories' to King Charles III. The Monarch, also the Head of the Commonwealth, warmly acknowledged the gesture. The occasion marked a formal interaction between the Indian men’s and women’s national cricket teams and King Charles III. Led by Shubman Gill, the squad visited Clarence House following their recent 22-run loss to England in the third Test match at Lord’s. BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia and Vice President Rajeev Shukla accompanied the teams and coaching staff for the cordial meeting. Rajeev Shukla Presents Scars of 1947 to King Charles III During Clarence House Visit In a video shared by ANI, King Charles III was seen engaging in a brief but warm conversation with BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla in the garden of Clarence House, London. During the interaction, Shukla presented a special gift to the Monarch — a copy of his book 'Scars of 1947: Real Partition Stories'. Authored by Shukla himself, the book is a poignant collection of firsthand accounts from survivors of the 1947 Partition of British India. Through these real-life stories, the book captures both the harrowing brutality and unexpected moments of compassion that defined one of the most traumatic chapters in South Asian history. The gift was received graciously by King Charles III, symbolising a thoughtful gesture that bridged sport, history, and diplomacy. 'Scars of 1947' goes beyond political narratives to focus on deeply personal, human experiences from both sides of the newly drawn border. Rajeev Shukla presents accounts from individuals who lived through the chaos, stories of families torn apart, neighbours turning into strangers, and the resilience of those who chose humanity over hatred. The book serves as a reminder that while history often records events in numbers and dates, its real weight lies in the memories of those who endured them. Drawing from extensive interviews and personal testimonies, 'Scars of 1947' offers an unfiltered lens into the emotional and psychological toll of Partition. Shukla carefully curates stories that reveal the moral complexity of that time, where survival, loyalty, and compassion clashed with fear, betrayal, and violence. The narratives are told with sensitivity and nuance, giving voice to those who were often left unheard in official records. It stands as both a tribute to survivors and a powerful call to remember history through lived experience.
