Eagles get backing from 3 Hall of Fame players on ‘Tush Push’: ‘Man up and stop it’
@Source: nj.com
The Eagles continue to lobby for the “Tush Push” or “Brotherly Shove” to remain a legal play while opposing a Green Bay Packers proposal aimed at banning it. If it were up to several Pro Football Hall of Famers, the play would stay legal. Palm Beach Post Miami Dolphins reporter Joe Schad spoke to multiple Hall of Fame players at a golf event in Boca Raton, Florida, asking whether the play should be outlawed. Former Minnesota Vikings guard Randall McDaniel argued that teams should focus on stopping the Eagles rather than eliminating the play. “If they want to stop it, then they need to man up and stop it,” McDaniel told Schad. “I don’t have a problem with it at all.” Former Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas and former Los Angeles Rams running back Eric Dickerson also voiced their support for keeping the play, though Thomas noted it could take touchdowns away from running backs. Not everyone favored keeping the play. Former Kansas City Chiefs guard Will Shields said that while he appreciated its ingenuity, it could pose an issue if teams couldn’t properly prepare for it ahead of games. “They have a team that’s figured it out, and that makes it a little more difficult when you can’t emulate it or stop it,” Shields said. “If they change it, it’s okay. It’s part of the process of making the game better. We couldn’t do it when we were playing. I think it’s pretty cool, though.” The Packers’ proposal to ban the play was tabled after failing to secure the required 24 votes, but another vote could take place as soon as May during the NFL’s Spring League Meeting.
