Jackson prep roundup: Manchester soccer gets flurry of goals to beat Hanover-Horton

The Manchester girls soccer team scored three goals in three minutes and cruised to an 8-1 win over Hanover-Horton on Monday. The Dutchmen got three first-half goals from Olivia Woods and two from Audrina Lauer. Woods got her first in the fourth minute on a run up the right side, but that was soon answered by the Comets’ Riley Anders off an assist from Morgan Meade. But Woods added two more in the 10th and 11th minutes and Lauer scored her first in the 12th, adding another in the 32nd. Madieynn Bennett added a pair of second-half goals and Lila Harvey scored another. Columbia Central 1, Napoleon 0: One Mara Henry goal was all the Golden Eagles needed to beat the Pirates. That goal was assisted by Peyton Huston late in the first half. Napoleon’s Joy Collins stopped every other shot directed towards her. Columbia Central’s back line kept Napoleon from getting a shot on Kolie Brown. Leslie gets two wins, with a no-hitter: Leslie beat Michigan Center twice in Cascades Conference play, getting 16 strikeouts from one starting pitcher and a no-hitter from the other. Leslie won the first game 8-0 with two runs each in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings. Parker Franklin and Easton Hawkins each had two hits. Henry Bradford drove in three runs. Brady Sober had a pair of hits for the Cardinals. Jackson Fossitt struck out 16 and walked no one. Leslie won the second game 11-1, sparked by a six-run first inning. Bradford was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Franklin and Chase Clark each drove in two runs. Hawkins struck out nine and issued one walk in a five-inning no hitter. No-hitter for Wetherby, Knapp in sweep: Columbia Central beat Vandercook Lake 15-0 and 22-0, with the Golden Eagles’ Haily Wetherby pitching a 13-strike out no-hitter in Game 1 and Camden Knapp throwing a no-hitter in Game 2. Gabby Gaydosh, Kelsey Fausz and Wetherby all had two RBIs in the first game for Columbia Central. Raell Bice drove in four runs in the second game, including a two-run triple as part of a 12-run rally in the fourth. Leelyn Brown also had a triple, scoring two runs. Conrad no-hits Napoleon: Grass Lake’s Mo Conrad allowed no hits in a 15-0 win over Napoleon in the first game of a doubleheader. Grass Lake won the second game 19-4, with Bree Salts going 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs. Leilah Smith went 4-for-4. Haven Marker drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates. Hanover-Horton sweeps Jonesville: Hanover-Horton won 10-0 and 19-5 over their fellow Comets. Halle Swihart drove in five runs in Game 1 for Hanover-Horton, including a three-run first-inning home run. Alexyn DuBois struck out 11. In the second game DuBois had two home runs and drove in six runs. Bryn Rusk drove in a pair of runs for Jonesville. Gracie Soltis and Addison Horton each had two hits. Hanover-Horton led 10-0 before Jonesville scored three in the fourth. Hanover-Horton responded, putting the game away with a seven-run seventh. Michigan Center sweeps: The Cardinals beat Leslie 14-10 and 17-16. In Game 1, Lily Nutt and Nora Fleming each had three hits. FGracie ranks hit a triple. In the second game the Cardinals scored nine in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 15-7 lead, then won it with a walk-off in the seventh. Izzy Pommerville had two hits, including a double. Jaidyn Fulk drove in a pair of runs. Autumn Sanford had four hits and six RBIs for the Blackhawks. Kaelyn Adair, Sophia Beegle, Gabby Velasquez and Adrianna Fogg each had three hits. Western 8, Hastings 0: The Panthers picked up an Interstate 8 shutout. All of Western’s doubles teams won in straight sets, including Kiiona Carmody and Sophia Nguyen winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles and Anna Wilcox and Karly Foster winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Natalie Hyde pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9. Dru Porter also claimed a first-set tiebreaker to win her No. 1 singles match 7-6(7), 6-2.
