All eyes will once again turn towards Jasprit Bumrah in the build-up to the fifth Test at Oval, London as England and India prepare to end a cracking series from Thursday (July 30), with the hosts aiming to seal victories while visitors aiming to make it 2-2. Coming into the series, BCCI's chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Bumrah himself declared that the star pacer will only feature in three matches of the five-match series. The 31-year-old played the series opener at Headingley but was not part of the playing XI for the victory at Edgbaston. He featured in the third and fourth Test at Lord's and Manchester. While Bumrah has played three Tests, which he was allowed per medical advice, will an exception been made with the series on the line at Oval? Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir kept their cards tight after the heroic draw in Manchester. "Will have to wait and see," said Gill in the post-match presentation. "We haven't had any conversation around the combination for the last Test. No decision has been made on whether Jasprit Bumrah will play or not," said Gambhir in a post-match press conference. The Manchester Test saw Bumrah bowl 31 overs, which is the second-most he has bowled in a single innings in his career. While he took two wickets, he also conceded 112 runs, marking the first instance of him conceding over 100 runs in an innings in Test cricket. Overall, Bumrah has 14 wickets in three matches with two five-wicket hauls to his name. With a turnaround of just three days between the two Tests, it remains unlikely that the star pacer will feature. During the Manchester Test, Bumrah was seen suffering from an ankle issue after tripping on the stairs. It has also been observed that the star pacer's average pace has come down since the series started. Going into the Manchester Test, India were devoid of options in the pace attack with both Akashdeep and Arshdeep Singh ruled out due to an injury. Mohammed Siraj has featured in all four matches and his status is also a question mark for the series finale. However, Gambhir also stated that all pacers are fit for the Oval Test.
